Last year Memorium released their latest self financed EP with four tracks and thirteen minutes of duration. “Triumph Of The Origin” is the title of this work and from the opening track this band will take your skull off. Except for the excellent cover they have chosen to put in this work, Memorium seems to be really professionals from the way they wrote the songs to the energy you can feel from the whole EP. Most of their songs are really aggressive and well worked, with a lot of changes inside each track and a combination of black/death metal with some hardcore elements too. Imagine a combination of SLIPKNOT, IMMORTAL and HATEBREED with the personal touch of Memorium and voila you have the musical direction contained in this EP. Definitely I will be more than happy to listen to their full length album when it will be ready. I am sure it will be a blast! Antonis  Maglaras 8.5/10

Memorium blast their way through four pummelling songs. Well executed and fast-paced, this music is worhty of attention. ‘The Nameless City’ features lyrics culled fromt the writting H.P. Lovecraft , whereas the other three tracks countain original words, which don’t quite work due to language difficulty – The band are French Canadian yet they sing in English.
‘Bornrest’ is a prime exemple : “You seek and hope to find the way, to free all of you bills to pay.’’ Given the guttural vocals, this isn’t a problem , but it exist nonetheless. Potential is certainly present as this is band’s first release.  7 / 10

This is the first demo (Ep) of the band and it was out in 2005. Style is Melodic Sweden Death M. but there are Core elements in some parts. Sounds like At The Gates but you can feel the influence of Slipknot. Anyway it is written in the band’s flayer that “Memorium sounds like Carcass & Slipknot & Immortal & Hatebreed”. I agree to this sentence except Immortal. Cover design and recording are really well-done. In spite of releasing their first work, it has been really a strong work. Definitely recommended. «Triumph of the Origin» is the first demowork recorded by this band coming from the French part of the Canadian territory and to make it short Memorium stand for really good death metal with some metalcore surroundings (mainly in the vocal departments). The band succeeds to find the right balance between mid paced death metal frameworks and more modern influences. As already said, the guttural vocal works show lots of connections with the nowadays (Scandinavian) death thrash metalcore scene… this kind of conventional vocals ruins the impact at first but it’s here alright because you get used to it after a few listens and it nicely compliments the band’s general musical orientation. The music itself doesn’t sound like anything else but amalgamates different styles and influences. «Triumph of the Origin» is above all competently played, brightly composed and don’t suffer from a weak production… this is thus what you can regard as a kind of mandatory purchase if you’re into modern death metal core. It looks like Canada, without being a very important provider of metal, succeeds once in a while to reveal some fresh new bands of a certain quality and I would dare to state that the Quebecoise Memorium can be enlisted among those without reservation.

What we are dealing with from Memorium's behalf is a 4-tracks EP, Triumph of the Origin, having not the best production I've ever heard, actually I would even complain a little bit about the sound of the drums, having not a huge dose of originality, still, a pleasant mix of death metal of all kinds and some hardcore and related genres, in the vein of Hatebreed. I guess this is what gives the product a certain energy that would had been missing if the would have been stucked within the death metal boundaries.

There is still a death metal album, with influences from classics like Carcass, I think I recognized even some Aborted there and a slightly shade of Quo Vadis...Despite the tricks with some recitative parts breaking the songs (Triumph of the Origin) and the core sound, that can make you love'em or hate'em- more perceivable in Bornrest and The Nameless City, the Canadian band doesn't succeed in finding that special "je ne sais quoi", that littte thing that makes you come back to one band's music over and over again. Just a regular well-played death metal with thrashy riffs and hardcore sound. But remember the "well-played" part, as I dare you to find something inappropriate in their music and interpretation. Anyway, a band that would definitely deserve a contract and a full-lenght album pretty soon.

This is another great Death Metal album that I was fortunate to get my hands on. It’s very rare that I end up really liking a band from Canada because for the most part, all the underground bands play the same alternative rock that I hear every day on the radio. But this is different… This is Death Metal! Really, really good Death Metal for that matter. 

This CD is the first EP from MEMORIUM. “Triumph of the Origin”. And all I can say it if the band takes the same steps found here in their first full length album, I see a platinum record right there. This EP is pure talent my friends. The instrumentals are sharp and Thrashy and the vocals are some of the best I have ever heard in Death Metal. Not only is “Triumph of the Origin” intense and brutal, but the CD stays completely unique throughout its playing time. 

Every song on this EP is memorable and I’ll be damned if I don’t purchase MEMORIUM’s first album. With all the praise I’m throwing at the band, you the reader must be thinking “but Jeremy, isn’t there anything wrong with this CD that I the reader should know?” My answer to you is this: “No!” (Online April 26, 2006)

And here we have the first independently released EP by death metal band Memorium hailing from the metal hotbed of Canada. Will this upstart death metal band rival the extremity and proficiency of their powerhouse Canadian peers and take a standing next to the international monoliths of the scene? In all honestly, the answer is no.

After an inane waste of time intro, Memorium gets straight down to business and launches into the fairly impressive “Triumph of the Origin” which features some great riffs blending the tension of more melodic death metal with the all out aggression the majority of you have come to love over the years. “Total Abrupt” features some chunky groove ala Aborted mixed with some more standard melody and aggressive riffing but really lacks the memorability needed to make it a good song. What I would personally love to see from this band is for them to stay away from the Slipknot influences and abandon the drab style delved into on “The Nameless City” along with the hardcore edge of the Hatebreed tinged “Bornrest.” Granted these are just stylistic differences I hold with the band but I’m particularly fed up with bands playing these styles unless they’re actually going to add something meaningful to the genre instead of playing a half rate copy of a style they don’t fully grasp.

The most impressive aspect of this album is the production despite the expense budget for the gloss of a big studio. The sound is incredibly warm and full with all instruments cutting across with a clear, distinctive sound. This and the musicianship are both pretty professionally done when you get right down to it.

The music isn’t particularly bad per se, but nothing was particularly gripping or interesting after “Triump of the Origin” with the rest of the material failing to really sink its teeth into me in any meaningful way. Too much of the material on Triumph of the Origin sounds like filler done by bands you’ve already heard. If all the material was up to par with the versatility of “Triumph of the Origin” on this EP there’s a very promising future for this band all things considering. Albeit with a bit more experience under their belts and a more focused approach, I'll be expecting a hell of a more promising result. JEREMY GARNER

Memorium is another death metal band that caught my attention while searching for bands for review. Triumph of the Origin is band' newest self-released demo. Unfortunately there're only four tracks on it; I say unfortunately cause I really enjoyed every second of it and I wish there was more. It is not very often that I listen to Canadian metal (Nickleback is not counting in this category girls!) and even rarer that I end up liking what I hear from this part of the world. This band is really talentful, no doubt about that. All the instruments are very sharp and kind of ‘thrashy' as I like it best, the same goes for the vocal performances of Bob & Tbas, actually some of the best death metal vocals I've heard in a long time. Whole cd is very intense and brutal with four very strong anthems with the strongest opener ever “Triumph of the Origin”. Not only this title track is strong and catchy it is also like the rest of the songs very memorable and easy to follow to. It is loud, aggressive, pure, honest and above all a death metal release when it's best!!! You should definitely get your self this cd, because you don't get any better death metal these days. Mostly for the fans of everything from Carcass to Immortal & Slipknot. 5/6
